Company History

After obtaining his M. A. Sc., degree in building acoustics from U.B.C in 1973, Clair Wakefield began his consulting career with the Acoustical Engineering Division of Aero-Acoustics Systems Ltd. of Vancouver (subsequently Harford Kennedy Wakefield Ltd.). In 1980, Mr. Wakefield joined the then B.C. Ministry of Transportation & Highways (MoTH) as its fist “Sound Studies Engineer”. In 1988 Clair “privatized” his position with the MoTH and formed Wakefield Acoustics Ltd. in Victoria B.C. to provide a full range of acoustical consulting services to clients on Vancouver Island, throughout B.C. and beyond.

Twenty-five Years Later

During the subsequent 25 years, Wakefield Acoustics Ltd. has completed almost 2,000 consulting assignments including: major infrastructure projects such as the Lions Gate Bridge Rehabilitation, Sea to Sky Highway Improvement Project, Port Mann/Highway 1 and South Fraser Perimeter Road components of B.C.’s Gateway Program and the Vancouver International Airport’s “Third Runway” Project. Consulting services have been provided in architectural acoustics and building noise and vibration control, industrial noise control and environmental/community noise impact assessment and control. Training and expert witness services related to noise and acoustical design are also offered. These services have been provided to a wide variety of clients including Federal, Provincial, Regional and Municipal Governments, major corporations, small businesses, the industrial and resource sectors, developers and builders, architectural and engineering firms, non-profit agencies, strata councils as well as individual homeowners and tenants.
