Oak Bay High School

The new, 1300 student school will replace two existing school buildings on the existing site. Wakefield Acoustics worked with Farmer Construction and HCMA Architecture during both the design and commissioning phases providing the following services:

  • design of interior partitions to achieve appropriate acoustical separation between various spaces;
  • design of interior surface finishes to control reverberation within larger spaces and promote speech intelligibly within classrooms;
  • review mechanical system and design acoustical treatments as necessary to control interior and exterior noise levels;
  • model the school Theatre using the software Odeon to optimize the acoustics of the Theatre with features such as ceiling reflectors to provide uniform speech levels throughout the audience area; and
  • acoustical testing during the commissioning phase to verify that acoustical targets had been met
