In 2009, Wakefield Acoustics Ltd, were retained to provide acoustical design services in relation to the construction of an additional correctional facility at the ACCW. The acoustical design of the prison had to meet challenging design targets that were specified in a comprehensive technical standard (TS). The principle design services were as follows:

  • Provision of acoustical separation between all occupied spaces (administrative and correctional) within the prison to satisfy the TS criteria,
  • Control of reverberation within all spaces, particularly in those spaces in which communication was vital (e.g. video conference rooms, visit booths, disciplinary hearing room), to meet the TS requirements.
  • Control of mechanical noise levels within all spaces to achieve the TS targets, and
  • Extensive commissioning services (i.e. noise level measurements and acoustical testing) to confirm that TS design targets were achieved.
