Edward Milne Community School

In collaboration with John Neilson Architects, Wakefield Acoustics Ltd. provided the acoustical design for the new Edward Milne High School in Sooke B.C. In addition to the usual requirement to provide adequate sound insulation between classrooms, offices, shops and athletic facilities and to control excessive reverberation in hallways, the main atrium/foyer space and the gymnasium, acoustical designs were also created for a music/band practice room, a dance studio and a 600-seat community theatre. The theatre was designed for flexibility of use and could be subdivided into three lecture rooms using vertically operable partitions. Its stage also served as a dance studio which could be separated from the theatre/lecture space by a large horizontal movable partition.
