In 2003 Wakefield Acoustics Ltd. was retained to provide acoustical consulting services in the design of a new LEED certified Music Teaching facility at St. Michaels University School. Wakefield Acoustics Ltd. worked closely with Merrick Architecture in designing the layout and surface finishes of the Strings, Band and Choir Rooms to optimize their acoustical environments. Wakefield Acoustics Ltd. also reviewed partition designs throughout the building to ensure that the three different music rooms and several practice rooms had adequate acoustic separation. Mechanical systems within this “Green Building” included natural ventilation features that, if left unaddressed, could have resulted in inadequate acoustical separation between music rooms, excessive interior mechanical noise levels and poor outdoor-to-indoor noise attenuation. Through careful selection of appropriate noise mitigation techniques, these potential noise problems were avoided.
